What you say

“That’s an interesting idea. Perhaps we could look at it again later.”

How it lands in a German meeting

Heard as genuine interest and a plan to come back to it. Not as the polite no you meant.

You know your business.

You know what you want to say. But when the conversation switches to German, it can suddenly be harder to sound as confident, precise and professional as you do in English.

You are taking responsibility for German-speaking clients or markets.

You work more closely with colleagues or a head office in Germany.

An important presentation, pitch or negotiation is coming up.

You are stepping into a role with responsibility for Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

You lead a German-speaking team.

You want your German to match the level at which you already work.

That is where Business German Coaching begins: with the situations in which you actually need German.

German for real professional situations.

Four ways to work together, each shaped around what you need German for.

Professional German Coaching

Ongoing one-to-one coaching for professionals who want to develop their German around their actual working life: meetings, client conversations, presentations, business writing, leadership communication and the language of your own industry. We work at your pace and focus on what matters most to you.

Talk about ongoing coaching →

Performance Coaching

A presentation, a client meeting, a pitch, an interview or a negotiation. Sometimes you do not need a general German course. You need to be ready for one specific situation. Bring the real material and we work on wording, delivery, pronunciation, likely questions, difficult moments and cultural nuance.

Prepare for what is coming up →

Corporate German Training

When your employees work with German-speaking clients, colleagues, partners or a head office, language skills become part of business performance. Programmes are designed for individuals or small teams, delivered online or in-house, with clear objectives and regular progress reviews.

Discuss your team’s training needs →

German Immersion

Selected clients take their learning further through intensive language days, weekends and individually planned visits to Germany. You use German in real situations, experience the culture behind the language and turn what you know into confidence.

Ask about immersion →

Why one-to-one works for busy professionals.

There are many ways to learn German. Professional communication usually needs something more individual.

An app

helps you practise vocabulary. It cannot prepare tomorrow’s presentation with you or tell you how your words may land with a German client.

A language school

provides structure. But the group sets the pace, the topics and how much individual attention you receive.

Personal coaching

starts with your actual objective and spends the time where it makes the greatest difference to your work.

More than correct German

Understand not only what to say, but how it lands.

Knowing the right words is only part of professional communication. British and German business culture can differ in subtle but important ways.

Directness
Feedback
Politeness
Small talk
Meetings
Emails
Hierarchy
Expectations

A sentence can be grammatically correct and still leave a different impression from the one you intended. That gap is exactly what we work on.

What you hear

„Das funktioniert so nicht.“

How it is meant

A factual starting point for improving the plan together. To a German colleague it is neither rude nor final.

The principle

Your professional expertise shouldn’t disappear when the conversation switches to German.

Christiane Cartwright, Business German coach

Christiane Cartwright

German expertise. British understanding.

Both sides of the conversation.

I am a native German speaker and a qualified teacher who has spent more than 20 years living and working in the UK.

I trained as a teacher in Germany and have taught in Germany, Britain and the United States. Having lived between languages and cultures for many years, I understand how German works, and how British professionals think, communicate and approach business situations.

That is why I can explain what sounds natural, appropriate and effective in the situation you are preparing for.

One experienced coach. Personal attention.

You work directly with me. There is no rotating team of tutors and no standard programme that every client follows.

Your material

Your presentations, emails, vocabulary, meetings and real professional situations become part of the work.

Your schedule

Sessions are arranged around the realities of a working professional’s diary.

Your privacy

When we work with sensitive professional material, it stays confidential.

Your priorities

No unnecessary detours. We focus on the German that matters most to you.

Honest about progress.

Language development depends on your starting point, your objectives, the time available and the work you put in yourself. That is why I do not promise that everyone will reach a particular level within a fixed number of weeks.

What I can promise is focused, individual teaching: finding out what you need German for, concentrating on what is most relevant and using our time where it makes the biggest difference.

In their own words.

Comments from anonymous feedback forms after my German courses.

“Having spent my life in education I feel qualified to say the following about my teacher. She is knowledgeable about her subject, she is well prepared and she has a lovely manner, hence my reason for re-enrolling.”

Course participant

“Christiane was always very prepared and had lots of resources and information to hand. I liked the way she involved everyone in the group.”

Course participant

“Really enjoyed the course. You make it fun. We don’t only learn German but we find out a lot about Germany, its traditions and people too.”

A clear, personal process.

01

A new role, German clients, a presentation, long-term development or training for your team.

02

We establish where you are now

We look at your current German, your previous experience and the situations you need to handle.

03

We build the right approach

Your coaching is designed around your priorities, timeframe, professional context and preferred way of working.

04

We work on what matters

Personally, practically and with a clear focus on the German you will actually use.

Get in touch

Your expertise is already there. Let your German reflect it.

If German is becoming more important in your work, tell me what you need it for. We can then decide together what kind of coaching would be most useful.

The first conversation takes 30 to 45 minutes and is free of charge. We talk about your aims, your German so far and how we could work together.
